Gum Rosins
Gum rosin is an ingredient in printing inks, varnishes, adhesives, soap, paper sizing, soda, soldering fluxes, rubber, sealing wax, paints and coatings (incl. anti-fouling marine paint). Modified rosin products with turmeric and malefic acids (or anhydrides) are used in manufacturing alkyds.
List of Gum Rosins
Gum rosin, a plant derived resin (primarily from pine trees), is composed mainly of resin acids and modified resin acids such as dimmers and decarboxylated acids. Gum rosin is soluble in alcohol, ether, turpentine, and some organic solvents.
The Rosin is divided into six grades generally, i.e. X, WW, WG, N, M and K. The color varies from slight yellow-to dark yellow/brown, to yellow/red. The softening point (ring and ball) of 76°C min. and acid value of 155-180 (mg KOH/g) min., for all grades offered.
