Fumed Silica
Fumed Silica has unique properties and is commonly added to liquids/coatings and solids to improve various properties and is commonly used as a filler for rubbers and plastics. Other uses include coatings, adhesives, cements, and sealants where it is recommended for thickening and thixotropy, suspension and anti-settling of solids, and utilized as a flowability aide in powders. Fumed silica is also used in the manufacture of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, defoamers, pesticides, inks, batteries, abrasives, etc.
Fumed Silicas
We offer untreated and treated (di-methyl, di-chloro) amorphous fumed silica. The treated silica has better water resistance and better compatibility with low-polarity resin systems as compared with the untreated silica. The different surface areas of fumed silicas range from 130—380 square meters per gram, depending on the particular silica product of interest.
Unlike crystalline silica structures, amorphous fumed silica has an irregular structure, making it safe to handle and eliminating the health problems associated with crystalline silica dust. Fumed silica's small particle size, 0.2—0.3 microns, allows it to be added to thin films, such as inks and coatings, without affecting the gloss (because the particles do not stick out of the film).
